From the moment I was a tiny tot, music and dancing were like my personal magic spells. I vividly remember twirling around my mom's living room, completely enchanted by Billy Joel’s "Uptown Girl." I’d play that record on repeat, lifting the needle and starting over for hours on end. By 11, I was blowing into a saxophone, and by 13, I’d joined the school jazz band, fully transforming into a jazz head, which set the course for the rest of my life.
After high school, I dived headfirst into jazz performance at Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo, BC. Then, a friend dragged me to my first rave, and it was like stepping into a whole new universe. That’s where I discovered the true magic of music and dance and their power to transform. We’d spend endless hours spinning records on a friend’s turntables, getting lost in the mix.
Fast forward 20-plus years, and I find myself at my first ecstatic dance (Dance Temple), where I felt like I’d finally found my home—a place where the dance takes center stage, guiding you on a meditative journey. It wasn’t long before I studied with Dance Temple's founder, Naomi Jason, on Salt Spring Island. With jazz flowing through my veins and a saxophone always at the ready, my sets naturally lean toward the jazzy side, and I love to sprinkle in a bit of live sax whenever I can.
